Heal The World

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make it a better place
For you and for me.

O Woman

O Woman, lovely Woman, magic flower,
What loves, what pleasures in thy graces meet!
Thou blushing blossom, dropt from Eden's bower;
Thou fair exotic, delicately sweet!

So tenderly by the wind, floats fast away
Over the snowy peaks!

At Christmas

At Christmas I no more desire a rose
Than wish a snow in May’s new-fangled mirth;
But like of each thing that in season grows.

Love Has Gone

Love has gone and left me and I don't know what to do;
This or that or what you will is all the same to me;
But all the things that I begin I leave before I'm through, –
There's little use in anything as far as I can see.

I Had A Mother Who Read To Me

You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be –
I had a Mother who read to me.

Heaven and Hell

I don't know why everyone
is still trying to find out
whether heaven and hell exist.
Why do we need more evidence?
They exist here on this very Earth.
Heaven is standing atop Mount Qasioun
overlooking the Damascene sights
with the wind carrying Qabbani's
dulcet words all around you.
And hell is only four hours away
in Aleppo where children's cries
drown out the explosions of mortar bombs
until they lose their voice,
their families, and their limbs.
Yes, hell certainly does exist
right now, at this moment,
as I pen this poem. And all we're doing
to extinguish this hellfire
is sighing, shrugging, liking, and sharing.
Tell me: what exactly does that make us?
Are we any better than the gatekeepers of hell?

O Body Swayed To Music

O body swayed to music, O brightening glance,
How can we know the dancer from the dance?

True Poesy

True poesy is not in words,
But images that thoughts express,
By which the simplest hearts are stirred
To elevated happiness.

~ John Clare

The Beauty Of My Flower

She loosed her robe, that I might see
Her body, lissome as a tree.
The calyx opened in that hour
And oh, the beauty of my flower!

~ Al-Mu'tamid Ibn 'Abbad

I Heard A Bird Sing

I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December,
A magical thing
And sweet to remember:
"We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September."

Now seems a perfect part;

Deep down within its heart.

These Are Not Flowers

These are not flowers
for picking or smelling.
They are for
trapping, entangling.
Once caught, there's a
binding, a holding.
As if in reality,
we're lost without knowing.
